Penn College is among only five schools chosen by CCC Information Services Inc. to share $25,000 in automotive collision repair training and education scholarships to assist deserving students pursuing a career in the industry. The CCC Outstanding Student Technician Scholarship, developed with the I-CAR Education Foundation, is accepting applications for the 2006 program.

The next session of "Project Choice" a free program at Pennsylvania College of Technology that provides assistance for adults considering a career change will begin Dec. 5. Offered by the Counseling, Career and Disability Services Office at Penn College, Project Choice provides comprehensive career exploration for anyone wishing to forge a new career path.

In another example of Penn College students giving back to their community, the Horticulture Technicians Association and PennDOT worked together Thursday to beautify the Interstate 180/Maynard Street interchange area. Student members of the club and lead horticulture professor/club adviser Richard J. Weilminster are planting 2,000 daffodil bulbs along the highway's on- and off-ramps.

A group of physician assistant students from Pennsylvania College of Technology recently participated in the Student Challenge Bowl at the Pennsylvania Society of Physician Assistants' state conference. The students finished second in their round of competition, but did not advance to the final round. Students who competed are: Mark J. Rockwell, Linden; Parul P. Shah, Williamsport; and Adam D.

A total of $905 was recently donated to the American Red Cross to assist the victims of Hurricane Katrina. Efforts to raise funds were coordinated by members in the Society of Manufacturing Engineers, Student Government Association and Wildcat Events Board, with support from Food Services and Student Activities. Megan L. Kime of Gardners, a junior in the graphic communications management major, has been chosen by the Student Government Association as October's "Student of the Month." Characterized as a "bright, enthusiastic, motivated young woman,"Kime has served as president and is current secretary of the Gamma Epsilon Tau graphic-arts fraternity.

The collision repair department has selected Brandon Smith asits "Student of the Month" for October. The honoree's father ownsthe R.A. Smith& Sonscollision repair shop in York Springs, with 30 years' experience. "Brandon has been a very hard-working, serious and dedicated student and leader while pursuing his education here at Penn College," said Stephen T. Duna, instructor of collision repair.

Buffet menus created by students at Pennsylvania College of Technology will be served to the public on Sundays and Mondays this fall at Le Jeune Chef, the college's fine-dining restaurant. Student managers in the School of Hospitality's Breakfast and Brunch course are given a theme, for which they choose recipes to be included on a buffet.

Penn College students were well-represented at Penn State's recent "All-U Day" victory against the then-No. 18 Minnesota Golden Gophers. A campus contingent of Nittany Lion fans traveled to Beaver Stadium on the Student Activities-sponsored bus trip Oct. 1, and Student Government Association officers unfurled a college banner among those of other university-related campuses.

In an effort to provide a more secure environment for distributing grades, the Registrar's Office is initiating a service that allows Pennsylvania College of Technology students to use the Student Information System to select how they wish to receive midterm and final grades.
