Hundreds of soaps, deodorants, shampoos, toothbrushes and other hygiene items were made available to students who need a hand at The Cupboard at Pennsylvania College of Technology, thanks to one of two recent projects by nursing students. The bachelor’s degree students, enrolled in a Community Health Nursing class, endeavored to serve their community while meeting course requirements.
A Pennsylvania College of Technology nursing student was granted a scholarship to attend the annual conference of the Pennsylvania Association of PeriAnesthesia Nurses. Janessa L. Kosmer, of Coal Township, was awarded the association’s Student Nurse Scholarship to PeriAnesthesia PRIDE, an event held near Pittsburgh in early October.

Students in Pennsylvania College of Technology’s Physical Therapist Assistant Club harvested a plentiful crop to benefit The Cupboard at Penn College, an on-campus food pantry that assists students and their families. The club initiated a 10-day food drive to coincide with the American Physical Therapy Association’s Global PT Day-of-Service, observed Oct.
The students are taking a variety of items to donate, including Penn College hand sanitizer and backpacks, toothbrushes, children’s books, hair ties and sunglasses. The college’s Dental Hygiene Clinic takes on a new hue as students and faculty don pink gowns for National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Penn College’s dental hygiene program helped to promote National Breast Cancer Awareness Month this week.
More than 900 high schoolers, hailing from 28 school districts, spent Thursday on campus for the College Transitions Office’s Career Day. Faculty and students from all six of the college’s academic schools and all three campuses spent their Fall Break day off providing close to 50 career-exploration sessions for the visitors, exposing them to dozens of the college’s “degrees that work” offerings.
