An alumnus’s investment in the next generation of innovators, the literal future of American manufacturing, was spotlighted during the April 27 dedication of the Larry A. Ward Machining Technologies Center at Pennsylvania College of Technology.

CSTK Bethlehem, an award-winning authorized dealership for Thermo King products, has donated truck and trailer refrigeration units to Pennsylvania College of Technology for instructional use in the college’s diesel technology program. The SB210 Thermo King unit is located on the front of a trailer and is used for large-volume, long distance refrigeration.

Future health care professionals have access to a learning tool that simulates respiratory symptoms likely to be encountered in the field, thanks to a $2,500 sustaining grant from PPL Foundation to Pennsylvania College of Technology. The 2020 contribution enabled purchase of a lung sounds simulator, which mimics real-life scenarios essential to educating health care providers.

Pennsylvania College of Technology is committing $1.25 million in existing scholarships and $250,000 in new scholarships for incoming students in Fall 2021. Eligible students may receive up to $5,000 scholarship awards through the initiative, known as the Kick Start Scholarship project.

When local sports legend Bill Byham passed away in late May 2017, his unpublished novel – offering relevant life lessons through the prism of junior-high football – could easily have died with him.

PPL has provided $13,000 toward the purchase of trainers to enhance the knowledge and skills of mechatronics students, whether they are enrolled in academic majors or are completing apprenticeship programs offered by Workforce Development at Pennsylvania College of Technology.

Donations are always welcomed at The Cupboard at Penn College, an on-campus food pantry, including items that aren’t food. In March, The Cupboard was grateful to receive a donation by the Student Nurses' Association of over 75 health and beauty products.

C&N has contributed $6,000 through the Educational Improvement Tax Credit Program to Pennsylvania College of Technology in support of the college’s dual enrollment program. The bank’s EITC donation will benefit Penn College NOW, a program that enables academically qualified high school and career technology center students to take tuition-free courses for college credit.
