Allan Myers, the Mid-Atlantic’s largest heavy civil contractor and a valued Pennsylvania College of Technology Corporate Tomorrow Maker, has pledged $250,000 to expand its support of students and programs at the college.

Any number of animals have creatively aided children’s development over the years: a hat-wearing cat, a honey-loving bear, a curious monkey, a big red dog and an even larger yellow bird, among them. Make room in that menagerie for Waffles, a lovable guinea pig debuting in a book for children – and whose enchanting story will also benefit students at Pennsylvania College of Technology.

Pennsylvania College of Technology’s Jennifer N. Severson took first prize, for the second year in a row, in the Mrs. T’s National Pierogy Day Recipe Contest. Severson is head cook in CC Commons, one of nine dining units on campus. Her winning recipe is for pumpkin spice pierogies, featuring roasted root vegetables and pumpkin curry.

Day after day, and not just on International Women's Day, Penn College champions the hands-on effort needed to reverse the disproportionately low representation of women in the trades.

International welding artist Rae Ripple, encouraged by a Pennsylvania College of Technology student last fall to drop by campus, honored that invitation Friday with an inspiring daylong visit. Johnson Controls and its York-based Navy Systems business has bolstered welding education at Pennsylvania College of Technology by donating $30,000 worth of materials in the past year and a half. Recently, the company, a Corporate Tomorrow Maker partner of the college, boosted its support with a $10,000 gift toward curriculum enhancements and additional equipment and materials procurement.

Jonah G. Howe, public relations manager for Chief Oil & Gas LLC and a graduate of Pennsylvania College of Technology, received an Alumnus of the Year Award at Thursday’s 21st annual Education Celebration hosted by the Williamsport/Lycoming Chamber of Commerce.
