Graphic design students at Pennsylvania College of Technology have taken inspiration from a Little Golden Books exhibition on campus in creating their own, modern versions of the classic children’s book illustrations. Students enrolled in Illustration (ART340) classes were tasked with illustrating and designing a two-page spread from one of 33 Little Golden Books.

Chef Shawn L. Hanlin has been named executive chef of Le Jeune Chef Restaurant at Pennsylvania College of Technology. Hanlin, who began his duties Jan. 4, comes to Penn College with 40 years of experience in the culinary field – 12 of them in culinary education.

Pennsylvania College of Technology has named Barbara Fisher Di Marco assistant dean of arts and sciences. Di Marco served most recently as interim assistant dean of arts and sciences. Previously, she was an assistant professor and co-department head of mathematics at Penn College. She was honored by the college with an Excellence in Teaching Award in 2020.

Pennsylvania College of Technology’s brewing and fermentation science instructor, Timothy L. Yarrington, will share his expertise in a free Penn State Extension webinar, set for 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 19. Coordinated by Penn State Berks, the talk, titled “Managing Bitterness When Pursuing Significant Hop Flavor and Aroma in the Brew House,” has already registered nearly 100 viewers.

Heller graduated from Pennsylvania College of Technology on Dec. 18, the 20-year-old added baking and pastry arts graduate to a growing list of achievements that already includes 10-year cancer survivor and tireless fundraiser for children with cancer through the Delaney Heller Foundation.

Ten Pennsylvania College of Technology students – including three who graduated in December – obtained state Department of Agriculture Pennsylvania Pesticide Applicator Certification after testing during the fall semester. “This definitely will give the students an advantage over others entering the workforce, as many employers look for this type of certification,” said Carl J.

The first cohort of culinary arts students completing a three-semester associate degree at Pennsylvania College of Technology recently put their skills to the test as each developed a full dinner menu – and served as chef de cuisine – in the college’s Le Jeune Chef Restaurant.
