Pennsylvania College of Technology once again is getting ready for the annual pre-spring break celebration, a "Mardi Gras Happy Hour" that encourages students to make wise and safe decisions during Spring Break. In a party atmosphere in Penn's Inn from 5-6:30 p.m.

Two by-appointment-only opportunities for free tax assistance have been scheduled at Pennsylvania College of Technology's North Campus near Wellsboro. The Internal Revenue Service's Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program, in which Penn College students help prepare hundreds of income-tax returns each season, will be available from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 25, and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Le Jeune Chef Restaurant, a fine-dining laboratory for students in Pennsylvania College of Technology's School of Hospitality, held a pair of events in February to showcase its redecorated dining room. Subtly combining pieces of its recent past with a renewed reflection of nature and light, the restaurant offers an atmosphere every bit as pleasing as its menu.

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance campaign, in which Pennsylvania College of Technology students partner with The Salvation Army and Internal Revenue Service, is helping hundreds of eligible area residents prepare and file their returns this season.

Daniel J. Clarke, who graduated from Penn College with four information technology degrees in May and December 2007, is featured in an Impact in Pennsylvania newsletter from the Cisco Networking Academy. Clarke, a systems engineer, works with the Cisco Public Sector team in meeting the technology needs of education and government.

Chef Paul Mach, assistant professor of hospitality management/culinary arts at Pennsylvania College of Technology, recently earned the Certified Specialist of Wine credential from the Society of Wine Educators. The Society of Wine Educators validates wine knowledge, tasting acumen and teaching ability within its certifications.

Pennsylvania College of Technology students will use Harry Potter as the inspiration for their three-tier cake designs during the college's sixth-annual cake competition. Following judging, the students' cakes will be displayed for the public from 1-3 p.m. March 3 and from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. March 4 in the Mountain Laurel Room of the Thompson Professional Development Center.

Le Jeune Chef Restaurant will host grand reopening events on Feb. 1-2 to show off its redecorated dining room. The new design reflects the School of Hospitality's more natural, organic approach to menu planning. "It started with us planting our own garden," said Layne E. Eggers, assistant dean of hospitality.

Beginning this fall, a bachelor's degree in web and interactive media an innovative melding of information technology and the visual arts will be available at Pennsylvania College of Technology.

Eight students and two Penn College faculty members Curt E. Vander Vere, assistant professor of mathematics, and D. Robert Cooley, assistant professor of anthropology and environmental science, along with Maya Exploration Center instructor Christopher Powell, studied Maya mathematics and culture in Flores, Tikal, Seibal, Yaxha and Lake Peten Itza, Guatemala, from Dec. 28-Jan. 4.
