Students in MTH 156 (Mathematics in Non-European Cultures) presented their study abroad projects in the Bush Campus Center TV Lounge this past week. The group traveled to Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula and studied the Mayan civilization. The Penn College community is welcome to sign up for next year's overland adventure through the rain forests and lowlands of the Mayan world.

A faculty member in the School of Integrated Studies at Pennsylvania College of Technology was a presenter at two recent conferences. D. Robert Cooley, assistant professor of anthropology/environmental science, presented on March 24 at the Penn State Symposium for Teaching and Learning With Technology and on March 29 at the annual meeting of the Society for Applied Anthropology in Baltimore.

A Pennsylvania College of Technology student finished second in the Cake Decorating Extravaganza, a competition held as part of the Atlantic Bakery Expo at the Atlantic City Convention Center. Kelly E. Rockwell, of Trout Run, received a trophy, a medal and a $200 cash prize for her butterfly-themed wedding cake.

Debra A. Buckman, assistant professor of chemistry and environmental science at Pennsylvania College of Technology, participated on a panel discussion on the role of educators in teaching about Marcellus Shale. The discussion was part of the annual conference of the Pennsylvania Association of Environmental Educators.

Pennsylvania College of Technology's health information management degree, which advances students into one of today's fastest-growing career fields, has received national accreditation.

Paul R. Watson II has been named assistant dean of programs in the School of Integrated Studies at Pennsylvania College of Technology. Prior to his appointment as assistant dean of integrated studies-programs, Watson served as director of mathematics and general education in the School of Integrated Studies at the college.

William Ma, professor of mathematics at Pennsylvania College of Technology, jointly authored a paper that was published recently in The Pacific Journal of Mathematics.
