Penn College alumna Kristi Ritchey, who received a degree in culinary arts technology in 2002, is among three contestants on the second episode of "Extreme Chef," a new competition series on the Food Network. The episode, titled "Rock the Block," is set to air at 10 p.m. Thursday and 1 a.m. Friday.

Pennsylvania College of Technology recently hosted its inaugural Nontraditional Employment Opportunities (NEO) Guys event, exposing male teenagers to job opportunities in all areas and encouraging career choice based on interests and individual strengths.

A semester-long project by students in Chef Monica J. Lanczak's Advanced Patisserie Operations class culminated Friday morning in a baking and pastry "trade show" in the Hager Lifelong Education Center.

School of Hospitality students Aimee M. Stout, of Middletown, N.Y., and Katelyn R. Ciavardini, of Sayre will prepare healthy vegetable burgers and other tasty treats for Saturday's "Spring Spectacular 2011" at Snyder's Nursery at the Feed Mill. The event will run from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at 114 S.

A group of Pennsylvania College of Technology students will help to serve thousands of hungry horse-racing fans at the 2011 Kentucky Derby on May 7. The students were interviewed on the Penn College campus and selected by Levy Restaurants representatives. Levy is responsible for food operations at many sports arenas and entertainment venues across the United States.

Alumnus Shawn Sidey, who graduated in 1996 with degrees in food and hospitality management and in culinary arts, returned to campus Monday to present to classes in the School of Hospitality. Sidey, roasting supervisor for the Starbucks plant in York, offered demonstrations and coffee tastings and talked with students about Starbucks, his work there and how his career has progressed.
