Pennsylvania College of Technology students served as assistants to Pennsylvania chefs competing in the Pennsylvania Tourism and Lodging Association's "Pennsylvania Palate Competition." The competition closed the association's fourth annual Food and Beverage Conference, themed "Shift Your Focus," which was held Feb. 23 at The Penn Stater Conference Center Hotel in State College.

Boundless creativity provided the midnight oil for Pennsylvania College of Technology's School of Hospitality students, who put in late, late hours to prepare their entries for the fifth annual CalJava International Wedding Cake Competition.

An assistant professor of hospitality management/culinary arts at Pennsylvania College of Technology recently presented a workshop at the Pennsylvania Tourism and Lodging Association's annual Food and Beverage Conference. Penn College's Chef Paul Mach presented a session titled "Pennsylvania Beer Versus Wine and Sustainable Tapas" with Robert Oeler, sommelier at the Nittany Lion Inn.

Pennsylvania College of Technology hosted its spring Visiting Chef Series from Feb. 17-19, welcoming Chef DeJuan Roy, executive chef of 95 Cordova at the historic Casa Monica Hotel in St. Augustine, Fla. While at the college, Roy worked alongside School of Hospitality students, sharing his expertise as they prepared a benefit dinner that concluded the stay.

Layne E. Eggers has been named assistant dean of hospitality at Pennsylvania College of Technology.

Penn College baking and pastry arts students will help provide the goodies for the Williamsport Civic Chorus' "Coffee and Dessert" concert to be held Saturday, Feb. 13, at Park Place, 800 W. Fourth St. The concert will feature songs about coffee and desserts, as well as appropriately coffee and wonderful desserts from the collegeand sixother local vendors.

Works by baking and pastry arts students at Pennsylvania College of Technology were auctioned to raise more than $1,600 for Greater Lycoming Habitat for Humanity during the School of Hospitality's annual Food Show on Dec. 4. The centerpiece of the fundraising effort was a silent auction of 12 chocolate houses created by students in the Principles of Chocolate Works course.
