Twenty-three Pennsylvania College of Technology aviation students and three faculty members were certified in January by the PAMA/SAE Institute, which quantifies technicians' knowledge throughout the aviation maintenance industry.

Pharmaceutical giant Bristol-Myers Squibb has established a scholarship fund at Pennsylvania College of Technology to support students in the college's aviation maintenance technology bachelor-degree major. The Bristol-Myers Squibb Scholarship Fund will make annual awards of $2,500 each to two students.

Pennsylvania College of Technology's aviation department held its SkillsUSA state finals this week, advancing a student Neil F. Baughman, of Hershey to national competition. In spite of bad weather, the event took place from 4-8:30 p.m. Tuesday in the sheet-metal laboratory at the college's Lumley Aviation Center in Montoursville. Baughman and co-finalists Yo Seop-Lee and Daniel C.

The December issue of Avionics News features a 2004 Penn College avionics graduate in the "Theory & Practice" column contributed by Thomas D. Inman, associate professor of avionics. In his latest piece, "Can An 'Average' Student Become a Good Employee for the Avionics Industry?" Inman profiles Thomas B. Smith, now "shining brightly" at Landmark Aviation in Leesburg, Va.

On Monday, Duncan Aviation sent six managers from its headquarters in Lincoln, Neb., and its major service center in Battle Creek, Mich., to Penn College's Lumley Aviation Center to recruit students for internships and full-time job openings at each location.

The National Science Foundation has granted Pennsylvania College of Technology and its four partners in the National Center for Aircraft Technician Training an additional $657,000 to continue their work for the next three years.

Aviation maintenance technology students Justine R. Wareham, of Hollidaysburg, and Joshua E. Swanger, of Northumberland, won a contest to receive balloon rides during last weekend's Montoursville Rotary Fall Foliage Hot Air Balloon Festival. The students departed from Williamsport Regional Airport via balloon for a scenic Thursday float about the valley.

Shaun M. McQuay of Watsontown, a graduate of Warrior Run High School , has been named Pennsylvania College of Technology's first "Student-Athlete of the Week" for Sept. 9-16.

Mwaura K. Ngoima, an aviation maintenance technology student from Kenya, recently became the first Penn College international student toattain his aircraft electronics technician certification. Ngoima was the second of10 Penn College studentsto pass the exam so far and the first in his home country.
