The Pittsburgh Area Chapter of the American Concrete Institute was founded in 1962 by Art Livingood, Andy Fertal and Bob Zerns. The Founders Award is given in honor of this group and to provide financial assistance for undergraduate students with an interest in cement technology, concrete technology, design or construction.

“What I like most about construction is the balance between structure and creativity!” said Polowy, a dean’s list student. “There is always a right way to do things, but also room to think and solve problems. I have always been creative. It has transitioned into my passion, with influence from my family’s jobs.”

Penn College offers an associate degree in concrete science technology that can be continued to a bachelor’s degree in residential construction technology & management.

The American Concrete Institute is the leading global authority for the development, dissemination and adoption of concrete-industry standards; technical resources; and educational, training and certification programs.
