Nearly two dozen engineering design technology students recently visited High Steel Structures LLC in Williamsport to learn about the renowned company’s structural fabrication and design processes.

Led by instructors Kendra N. Tomassacci and Catherine A. Krawiec, 23 students from two sections of CCD 237 Technical Drawing-Related Disciplines – a required course for both the bachelor’s in engineering design technology and the associate degree in engineering CAD technology – made the short trip to bridge classroom learning with real-world experience.

“The tour directly supported the CCD 237 curriculum by allowing the students to observe the practical applications of technical drawing and design in a professional setting,” Tomassacci said. “Local employers, like High Steel Structures, provide essential experiences for students, enhancing their ability to connect academic concepts with industry practices.”

The tour was conducted by Adam Steppe, industrial engineer; Greg Weitzel, supervisor of High Steel University; and Jake Fisher, plant manager. Steppe and Fisher are Penn College alumni.
