The in-class portion will meet from 6 to 9 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays (at Evangelical Hospital) and Tuesdays and Thursdays (in Williamsport and Wellsboro). Some evenings will require instruction from 6 to 10 p.m.
Content will be delivered through a “flipped” mastery-learning model that employs internet-based, streaming-video education. Students will watch videos that support comprehension and reinforce key concepts.
Face-to-face learning includes case studies and skill drills to apply students’ understanding with hands-on activities. Experiential learning during ambulance rotations affords real-world immersion into an environment of practice.
Penn College’s paramedic certificate program provides the diverse skill set necessary to sit for the National Registry of EMT’s paramedic exam.
In the fully immersive certificate program, students start with fundamentals and progress through 1,860 hours of instruction, expanding their knowledge alongside expert instructional staff. Working in state-of-the-art labs, students learn how to stabilize a simulated critical patient inside an ambulance simulator and treat patients in a vehicle rescue. In addition to classroom theory and hands-on learning in labs, students receive field and clinical instruction. Offering direct patient contact, the supervised, real-world experiences are at a variety of sites, such as emergency, surgical, critical care, obstetrics and pre-hospital settings. Certificate students learn everything needed to begin their career in just 12 months.
Pennsylvania EMT certification is required for entrance into the paramedic certificate program. Out-of-state applicants will need to seek reciprocity as soon as possible.
