The Pennsylvania College of Technology chapters of two honor societies held induction ceremonies on April 20, recognizing more than 110 new members for their notable academic achievement.

President Michael J. Reed and Joanna K. Flynn, dean of curriculum and instruction, participated in both ceremonies.

Phi Theta Kappa
Eighty-five students were welcomed into Penn College's Beta Epsilon Upsilon Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, an international honor society for students in two-year majors. Each semester, invitation to membership is extended by the chapter to students without advanced degrees who have completed at least 12 hours of coursework leading to an associate degree in which they have a GPA of 3.5.

The guest speaker was chapter President Christine A. Limbert, Curwensville, graduating this semester with a bachelor's in building science & sustainable design; and the coat of arms was presented by Cheyenne E. Stein, chapter secretary and a residential construction technology & management student from Orwigsburg. Faculty advisers Karen L. Avery, assistant professor of biology, and John F. Tamblin, assistant professor of chemistry, presided over the induction of new members.

Alpha Chi
At a 1 p.m. ceremony in the Thompson Professional Development Center, 28 students were inducted into Alpha Chi's Pennsylvania Xi Chapter, which is open to baccalaureate enrollees from all academic majors and limited to the top 10 percent of an institution's junior and senior classes.

In addition to those offered by Reed and Flynn, remarks were delivered by Maddie Newell and Lisa Sever, who are the chapter's 2023-24 president and vice president, respectively. Newell is a health science student from Selinsgrove and Sever, of Montoursville, is a nursing student.

The new members were inducted by faculty co-sponsors Tammy A. Miller, biology instructor, and Marc E. Bridgens, associate professor of HVAC technology, who is retiring at semester's end.
