More than 250 skateboards with images ranging from simple designs to intricate graphics are included in the exhibit 'Full Deck,' slated to open at The Gallery at Penn College on July 22.The Gallery at Penn College, on the third floor of Pennsylvania College of Technology's Madigan Library, will host "Full Deck," a traveling exhibit of skateboard art, July 22-Sept. 22.

"Full Deck" captures the dynamic art and style representative of skate culture from the 1960s to the present. As skateboarding grew to encompass both sport and lifestyle, the importance of the skateboard as a canvas emerged.

"The eye-catching images on the bottom of these skateboards are one of the purest forms of self-expression: highly personal and mostly created without artistic boundaries just like skateboarding itself," said Carrie Lederer, curator of exhibitions and programs at Bedford Gallery, which organized the exhibit.

More than 250 boards with images ranging from simple designs to intricate graphics are included in this anthology of skate art. The skateboards and a variety of photographs, art and other memorabilia are on loan from some of the West Coast's top skateboard designers, distributors, photographers and professional skaters.

Bedford Gallery is part of the Lesher Center for the Arts, in Walnut Creek, Calif.

An opening reception for the exhibit will take place in The Gallery at Penn College from 4:30-6:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 22.

Summer hours at the gallery in effect through July 31 are Tuesday to Friday 11 a.m.-5 p.m., and Sunday 1-4 p.m. Regular hours, which resume Aug. 1, are Saturday and Sunday, 1 to 4 p.m.; Tuesday and Thursday, 2 to 8 p.m.; and Wednesday and Friday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. All exhibits are free and open to the public.
