He's an award-winning chef, successful entrepreneur, army combat veteran, philanthropist, and community volunteer. With talent and passion that runs this deep, we couldn't be more proud to call George a Penn College alumni.
I love the ability to create memorable experiences for people. Being able to focus on service and make a positive impact on an individual or a group of people is very satisfying. The field is ever changing and the ability to have endless creative opportunities pushes you to stay fresh and up to date.
This is hard. There were so many that I enjoyed and so many that I took something away from that I would have never have thought. I would say the most challenging and rewarding classes were Regional and Classical Cuisine, because they both offered an in-depth exploration of regional cooking fine dining at its earliest. The long labs followed by a successful service was extremely rewarding. The hands-on labs followed by real-world execution helped me develop practical skills and an in-your-face realization of how demanding a kitchen can be.
Penn College played a crucial role in shaping my career by providing a strong foundation of knowledge and skills. The curriculum was designed to be hands-on and industry-focused, which allowed me to gain real-world experience and help me create, what I think, is a more unique career path filling a niche corner of restaurant/catering experience in this area.
Catering the Penn College Employee Picnic was a big moment. It was close to 1,000 people, and me still being green in the industry made it more daunting than expected. This experience was significant because it not only showcased my skills and capabilities, but also highlighted the crucialness of planning, communication, and teamwork.
I would advise them to focus on building a strong foundation in both their industry and business management. Seek out internships and practical experiences to gain hands-on knowledge and understand the day-to-day realities of running a business. Additionally, stay adaptable and open to learning from both successes and setbacks.
I think Penn College's knowledgeable staff of instructors with real-world experience in their specific field ensures that graduates are well-equipped to enter the workforce or start their own business and make a meaningful impact. Being local, I feel it’s important to not only support small businesses, but also support the institutions that produce the individuals starting the small business or joining the workforce, whether it be in the Williamsport area or somewhere else.
"Take the time to visit the campus and experience the environment firsthand. The real-world applications and mind-boggling focus on technology here is impressive. Not only does this lead to offering an immersive learning environment, but it also contributes to opening many more opportunities based on you being a step ahead because of the knowledge gained."
George "Herman" Logue Jr and George Logue III graciously donated a state-of-the-art small batch brewing system to elevate students' hands-on learning experience for the Penn College Brewing and Fermentation Science major.
George was one of two honorees selected by the Williamsport-Lycoming Chamber of Commerce as part of their annual celebration focusing on the positives that result from cooperation between local school districts and business/industry.
George joins the Ambassador's Society at the college's Donor Recognition Reception, an annual event recognizing contributions from alumni, corporate partners, employees, parents and friends of the college.
