Program Overview

Prepare your district to manage and respond to emergencies and common incidents in schools. Introducing Penn College Workforce Development’s School Safety and Security Training, a new course series designed for superintendents, safety teams, school resources officers and other school leaders. This training goes beyond theory—participants will actively engage in simulations, group discussions, and strategic planning to walk away with tools they can implement immediately.

  • Emergency Management and how it correlates to Act 55 
  • Common incidents in schools  
  • Introduction of the Incident Command System 
  • Methodologies, liabilities, and best practices in crisis communications 
  • How to prepare staff to operate in a critical incident without taking the focus off education

Course Details

This course delivers a structured, applied approach to school safety, covering emergency management, crisis communications, and incident response frameworks.

Course Schedule: 

  • Day 1: October 9 - Emergency Management in Schools  
  • Day 2: October 23 - Crisis Communications 
  • Day 3: January 15 - Tabletop Exercise/Simulation   
  • Day 4: January 29 - Tabletop Exercise/Simulation   
  • Day 5: March 12 - Preparing for incidents on a “Blue Sky Day”
