"SimMan" may wheeze, his pulse may race, his blood pressure may soar, and he may even go into cardiac arrest, but no matter how grave the medical malady, he always recovers.

For the 13th time in 18 years, students from Pennsylvania College of Technology's School of Natural Resources Management have finished first in the Mid Atlantic Horticulture/Landscape Field Day competition. In this year's event, which was held recently at the Eastern Campus of Cuyahoga Community College, Cleveland, the Penn College competitors prevailed over six other schools.

Eleven Pennsylvania College of Technology students took first place in their competitions at the Pennsylvania SkillsUSA-VICA Conference, held April 17-19 in Altoona. The winners now are eligible to compete at the SkillsUSA Championships - a showcase for the best career and technical students in the nation June 27 in Kansas City, Mo.

Members of Pennsylvania College of Technology's Phi Beta Lambda chapter registered seven first-place finishes at the Phi Beta Lambda State Leadership Conference in Harrisburg on April 12-13.

Forest Technology students from Pennsylvania College of Technology's School of Natural Resources Management finished fourth overall and took first place in several competitions at the Mid Atlantic States Intercollegiate Woodsmen's Meet held recently in North Carolina.

A paper bridge designed by two Pennsylvania College of Technology students carried a load 579 times its weight, setting a record recently in winning the strongest-bridge category in the 11th annual "Bridging the Gap" competition at the College. In the competition, students designed and built bridges made entirely from construction paper and glue.

Pennsylvania College of Technology student Matthew A. Greger was named "National Communications Coordinator of the Year" recently at the Central Atlantic Affiliate of College and University Residence Halls regional conference at Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland.

Twenty students from Pennsylvania College of Technology will compete for statewide honors at the Pennsylvania SkillsUSA-VICA Conference, to be held April 17-19 in Altoona. Twelve of the students registered first-place finishes at the SkillsUSA-VICA District 6 Skills Competition, held Feb. 15 at Penn College.

One day in 1999, automotive technician Robert W. Stepanovich was surfing the Internet for colleges that offered degrees in the automotive career field, when he came upon the home page for Pennsylvania College of Technology and its School of Transportation Technology.

William C. Brownlee and Katie L. Spoerke have been chosen as the 2002 Homecoming King and Queen at Pennsylvania College of Technology, helping to raise $954 for charity in the process. Penn College students voted for Homecoming King and Queen by placing money in the jars of their favorite candidates among 23 nominees. The jars were placed at the information desk of the Bush Campus Center.
