A world-renowned cake decorator will sponsor the first "CalJava Wedding Cake Contest" at Pennsylvania College of Technology on May 1. Daniel Budiman, CEO of CalJava International the contest's sponsor and editor of Here Comes the Cake magazine, has earned fame for his unique wedding-cake designs.
Four architectural technology majors are the winners of the 2006 "Strongest Bridge" contest: Corey N. Andreas, of Bloomsburg; Ryan L. Lewis, of Abbottstown; Matthew C.Toth, of Lancaster;and Henrik L. Berger, of RR 1, Huntingdon. Their bridge, made of construction paper and glue as outlined in the annual competition, weighed .35 of a pound and carried 136.2 pounds 389 times its weight!
Four Pennsylvania College of Technology students earned gold medals in this month's competition at the Pennsylvania SkillsUSA Conference in Lancaster, qualifying them for national competition in Kansas City, Mo., in June. Nine of 17 Penn College competitors brought home medals in the statewide competition, which was held March 13-15 at the Willow Valley Resort and Conference Center.
Pennsylvania College of Technology's Student Government Association voted unanimously in front of a packed room of approximately 60 students at its March senate meeting to support the recently proposed rental-inspection ordinance for the City of Williamsport. "We are in favor because we feel that safety is something worth paying for," said SGA President Sabrena A.
The Residence Life Office at Pennsylvania College of Technology has announced a number of recent honors, spotlighting praiseworthy students and programs among the college's four residence-hall complexes. Chosen as "Resident Assistant of the Month" was Rachel S. Hall, a culinary arts technology major from Altoona, in her third year at The Village at Penn College.
Environmental technology students in Pennsylvania College of Technology's School of Natural Resources Management have partnered with the Lycoming County Planning Commission to perform an "illicit discharge" survey for stormwater. By Juli Reppert, student writer/photographer During the March 5-12 Spring Break, 18 Pennsylvania College of Technology students will join a team of 200 other volunteers at Camp Coast Care, a relief center in Long Beach, Miss., for survivors of Hurricane Katrina on the Gulf Coast.
A fire at 633 W. Fourth St. in Williamsport (Victorian Village) on Sunday morning displaced 14 Penn College students, according to the owner of the facility. None of the students was injured in the blaze. Those students who need it will be offered temporary housing on campus. The college will also help replace books and academic supplies and provide other assistance to the students.
Students enrolled in the School of Hospitality at Pennsylvania College of Technology not only prepare food for the college's fine-dining restaurant, they also help manage its kitchen as they fulfill requirements for the Regional American Cuisine and Breakfast and Brunch courses.
Eleven Penn College students recently attended the Allegheny Society of American Foresters' winter meeting in Lancaster. Three participated in the student Quiz Bowl as part of the activities: David A. Cole, Berwick; Eric D. Erdman, Milton; and Joseph L. Wagner, McClure all of them majoring in forest technology.
