A student in the Athens Area School District is the latest recipient of an award from a scholarship established at Pennsylvania College of Technology in memory of the late wife of state Sen. Roger A. Madigan. A selection committee has awarded the 2008 Peggy Madigan Memorial Leadership Scholarship to Athens Area High School senior Jeffrey Wright.

There are hundreds of jobs posted to eRecruiting by employers who are seeking Penn College students and graduates. American Infrastructure, Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, United States Postal Service, Volvo Construction Equipment and Geisinger Health System are just a few of the companiesthat have posted jobs to eRecruiting in the past two weeks.

Pennsylvania College of Technology's Residence Life Office has selected its exemplary Resident Assistants and events for April, and announced its end-of-the-year lineup of award-winning RAs and programs from among on-campus housing complexes.

The Gallery at Penn College, on the third floor of the college's Madigan Library, hosted an opening reception on Tuesday for its graphic design student portfolio exhibit, which runs through May 13. Gallery hours are 1-4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, 2-8 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday, and 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Wednesday and Friday. All exhibits are free and open to the public.

The college community had the opportunity Monday and Tuesday to view entries in the third Cal-Java Wedding Cake Contest, conceived by renowned cake decorator (and Cal-Java International owner) Daniel Budiman for Penn College students. Eight students, enrolled in an advanced cake-decorating course, designed wedding cakes based on wedding gift bags.

Matthew P. Robinson, an HVAC technology major, lost 2.5 pounds of fat and attended eight events offered through Student Activities to accumulate the most points in the BFit/BWell Challenge run by the Fitness Center. For his efforts, Robinson received $25 gift cards to Wegmans, GNC and Dick's Sporting Goods; Cliff energy products and a Penn College back-sack.

Human services students at Penn College presented the second Assistive Technology Expoon Fridayin the Field House. The expo featured a broad range of services and equipment to assist individuals with disabilities. The displays focused on mobility, recreation, communication, tracking systems, home accessibility and education.

Students Tracey E. Brewbaker, Beth A. Snoddy and Michael D. Womelsdorf and instructor Emily B. Miller all competed in the Lehigh Valley Half Marathon on Sunday, April 27. Brewbaker and Snoddy are physical fitness specialist students who will graduate in May; Womelsdorf is a returnee to the half marathon and soon will graduate from Penn College with a technology management degree.

Among high school students who earned gold medals in the recent SkillsUSA Pennsylvania Leadership and Skills Conference was Lycoming Career and Technology Center senior Jordan Hill, who is also enrolled in early childhood education courses at Pennsylvania College of Technology.

The 2007-08 Student Activities Awards Banquet, honoring the campus and community involvement of Pennsylvania College of Technology's committed student leaders, groups and faculty advisers, was held Wednesday night in the Bush Campus Center.
