Pennsylvania College of Technology has designated three student leaders to serve as community assistants for the 2008-09 academic year. The students will serve as a resource for off-campus students, help to promote a safer off-campus community and enhance the link between the college administration and off-campus students. Role models can be examples of how to discover and realize your own unique talents, an inspiration to do more, to be more authentic. A role model – a "Star of Influence' – is a must for all, especially in the eyes of college students as emerging leaders. It is a great help. Unconsciously we all have one. It is something which inspires us and touches the core of our heart.

Pennsylvania College of Technology's Residence Life Office has chosen its noteworthy August-September events and Resident Assistants from on-campus housing units. Rising Star of the MonthHonored as Rising Star of the Month was Brittany E. Davis, a first-year RA in College West and a culinary arts and systems major from North Apollo.

Pennsylvania College of Technology student Bradley J. Stroup was recently named recipient of a $3,000 scholarship from the Society of Plastics Engineers Foundation. Stroup, a junior plastics and polymer engineering technology major from Mount Pleasant Mills, was awarded the foundation's Injection Molding Division Scholarship for 2008-09.

The four-member executive board of Penn College's Student Government Association joined about 600 students from more than 100 schools at last week's 2008 National Student Government Conference in Bethesda, Md. "This conference was such an awesome experience," SGA President Brian D. Walton said.

An exhibition of student photographs is on display in Bookmarks in the Madigan Library, part of the work completed for the Spring 2008 Commercial Photography course (PHO230) taught by Gary R. DiPalma, assistant professor of graphic design. The photographs were taken in four basic subject areas: fashion/portrait, food, product and architecture.

Penn College students may claim a free ticket for Williamsport Symphony Orchestra concerts by stopping at the Community Arts Center box office with their student ID. The opening concert, "Passion for the Slavic Soul,"is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14, at the Arts Center. Subsequent concerts this semester are Saturday, Nov. 15, and Tuesday, Dec. 9.

The Student Activities Office is organizing a new community-service project this winter called Operation Snowflake. Student organizations will sign up to sponsor a week during the winter months. If it snows during that week, the organization's members will shovel the walks of elderly citizens and alumni in the area.

"Show Your Colors" is the theme for this year's Homecoming celebration at Pennsylvania College of Technology; a variety of activities from a comedian and a car show to athletic events and networking receptions are scheduled from Oct. 8-12. The public is invited to a number of Homecoming events: a flag football game at 9 p.m. Oct. 8 on the Athletic Field; a women's volleyball game at 7 p.m. Oct.

On Saturday, residentsof Campus Viewand The Village apartments had an opportunity to learn new skills while working together to build a lasting contribution to their community.
