Katrina M. Snelgrove, a baking and pastry arts student at Pennsylvania College of Technology, was recently named a finalist in a national chocolate-dessert competition sponsored by Barry Callebaut, the world's leading manufacturer of high-quality cocoa and chocolate products.

Pennsylvania College of Technology announced the winners of its annual Food Show, which included a chocolate house auction that raised $1,600 for the Greater Lycoming Habitat for Humanity. The Food Show included about 80 entries from students in seven advanced culinary arts and baking and pastry arts courses, and all seven courses were judged by culinary arts professionals from across the region.

On Thursday night, the Penn College Construction Association hosted a hands-on activity for about a dozen Cub Scouts from Den 38 (St. Ann's Roman Catholic Church). The Scouts, in the process of earning their Wolf patches, needed to complete a Building and Fixing requirement as part of that process.

Pennsylvania College of Technology will hold a commencement ceremony on Saturday, Dec. 18, for the 380 students who have petitioned to graduate following the Fall 2010 semester. The ceremony will begin at 11 a.m. in the Community Arts Center, 220 W. Fourth St., Williamsport. The student speaker is Eric D.

Student members of Pennsylvania College of Technology's Collegiate Association for County Correctional Education recently completed a library-enhancement project at the Montour County Prison. The CACCE members worked to collect, organize and redistribute a variety of new, high-quality textbooks that were donated by the faculty, staff and students of Penn College.

On Friday, Nov. 12, Penn College's Accounting Society took an educational trip to the Yuengling Brewing Co. in Pottsville. "We began with a tour of the facilities; it was a great tour," said Shannon Killian, society president, who also provided the group photo at left. "We learned about how the company got started and how they survived Prohibition.

Thirty-nine boxes, 100 canvases, 54 students, an artist-in-residence, and Pennsylvania College of Technology faculty and staff members combined to create a large-scale work of art that was installed recently in the college's Student and Administrative Services Center.

Seven students in the Penn College Construction Association recently visited the Schneebeli Earth Science Center for a tour of the lumber mill. Forestry instructor Jack Fisher provided a thorough tour of the mill, lumber yard and dry kiln for the students.

The Student Athlete Advisory Committee sponsored a canned-food drive during the past week, culminating in Monday's men's and women's basketball games in Bardo Gymnasium.
