A physical therapy clinic – staffed by students supervised by licensed professionals, and offering free services to volunteer community participants in need – is planned for Fall 2025 at Pennsylvania College of Technology. The clinic is being funded by Penn College President Emeritus Davie Jane Gilmour, whose gift will be used to purchase much of the needed equipment, upgrade the space (the former Occupational Therapy Assistant Lab), and support the first two years of operations at the facility.

Penn College’s Medical Imaging Club continued its Pink Out tradition, dressing in rosy hues recently to support Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The club, made up of students in the radiography program, holds the Pink Out to honor those who have battled or are battling breast cancer and to educate the community about breast cancer, breast self-exams and the role radiographers play in the detection and treatment of breast cancer.

Supporting Pennsylvania College of Technology’s mission to equip future leaders with real-world experience, faculty members led students in exploring new parts of that world through six 2024 Global Experience classes. In Europe, students explored the origin and future of objects of their study, and in Latin America, they used their budding skills to serve others. Around 135 students participated in the classes.

More than 2,000 Pennsylvania College of Technology students seized the opportunity to meet with the 428 eager employers who visited Fall Career Fair to recruit the college’s newest tomorrow makers. In recent years, Penn College Career Services has expanded its Career Fairs, held twice each year, to two days and two locations to accommodate the number of employers who want to recruit the college’s career-ready students.

On Saturday, Nov. 9, Pennsylvania College of Technology will provide free dental care to children and teens age 7-18. From 9 a.m. to noon in the college’s Dental Hygiene Clinic, volunteer dentists and dental hygienists and Penn College students will provide free oral screenings, sealants and education during an activity dubbed “Sealant Saturday.” Appointments are required and can be made by calling 570-320-8007.

Penn College’s physician assistant program celebrated PA Week – observed annually Oct. 6-12 – with an outdoor pizza lunch for its students on Monday. PA Week is promoted by the American Academy of Physician Associates to celebrate all that physician associates/assistants (PAs) have accomplished, highlight the care they provide, and elevate the profession.

Total enrollment at Pennsylvania College of Technology for Fall 2024 is 4,575 students – a 6.2% increase over Fall 2023 and a 7.9% increase over Fall 2022. New-student enrollment for Fall 2024 – which includes incoming undergraduate, graduate and nondegree students (new, transfer and re-enroll) is 1,744 – a 7.1% increase over a similarly strong incoming class in Fall 2023.

During National Physical Therapy Month, Pennsylvania College of Technology physical therapist assistant students are formulating plans for a service-learning project to be held in March. Every October, physical therapists, physical therapist assistants and students celebrate National Physical Therapy Month to raise awareness among consumers about the many benefits of physical therapy.

Alumni who, as students, provided oral health care in third-world countries reunited on campus last week to reminisce and to celebrate how the experience continues to shape their outlooks. Since 2008, Rhonda J. Seebold, part-time instructor of dental hygiene, has taught classes that concluded with travel to Nicaragua (2008-2015), and Dominican Republic (2016-2024). With a two-year hiatus during the pandemic, the 15th class traveled to the Dominican this summer.
