Chalmer Van Horn, a retired faculty member who taught engineering drafting for nearly three decades at Pennsylvania College of Technology and its two predecessor institutions, has endowed two scholarships at the college, including one that honors the memory of his wife of 56 years, Ruth Ann.

This summer, Pennsylvania College of Technology will offer a four-week Youth Training for Athletic Development program. Taught by members of the college’s physical fitness specialist faculty, the program will emphasize sport-specific training, fundamentals of proper technique, injury prevention and nutrition education, as well as functional and resistance training.

More than 900 Pennsylvania College of Technology students have petitioned to graduate at the completion of the Spring 2014 semester, and the college has scheduled three ceremonies May 16-17 for those who will march at commencement. All of the ceremonies will be held at the Community Arts Center, Williamsport. At 3 p.m.

Eighteen dental hygienists recently completed a local-anesthesia training program offered by Pennsylvania College of Technology’s School of Health Sciences and Workforce Development & Continuing Education. The group completed the 30-hour training program, Local Anesthetics for the Dental Hygienist, on April 6.

Dental hygiene students made their annual visit Saturday to Williamsport’s Christ Episcopal Church, where they prepared a free dinner for the community.

A scholarship has been created at Pennsylvania College of Technology memorializing Bethany G. Hughes, an August graduate of the college’s radiography program who was killed in an automobile accident in Fairfield Township on Nov. 22. The Bethany Hughes Memorial Radiography Scholarship has been established by the Hughes family: her father, Charles; mother, Kathleen; and sister, Heidi.

Golfer-turned-head-coach Matthew Haile helped his team stay undefeated and capture conference championships. In 2003, he was the conference individual champion – the first since 1982. During Adam Waigand’s tenure, the Wildcats soccer team achieved a 55-14-1 record and a 2004 conference championship. An All-State selection, he helped the defense record 15 shutouts in his last two years.
