Supported by grants from Nuts, Bolts & Thingamajigs, the Gene Haas Foundation and EQT Corp., the three-day camp introduced students to engineering design, manufacturing, polymer engineering, 3D printing and welding.

Acting Labor Secretary Julie Su and Director of the Domestic Policy Counsel/White House Domestic Policy Advisor Neera Tanden took a few moments to answer questions following their July 11, 2024, announcement event at Pennsylvania College of Technology. The officials announced nationwide grant funding for apprenticeship initiatives totaling $244 million. Penn College is the recipient of a $4 million grant to expand its existing apprenticeship and pre-apprenticeship programs.

A $4 million federal grant will empower Pennsylvania College of Technology to continue serving as a key provider of apprenticeship and pre-apprenticeship training programs statewide and beyond in response to employer demand for more workers in advanced manufacturing. The Apprenticeship Building America grant was announced today during a U.S. Department of Labor event with remarks delivered by Julie Su, acting secretary of labor, and Neera Tanden, White House domestic policy advisor.

The Pennsylvania College of Technology Foundation’s 38th Annual Golf Classic raised $120,000 recently for student scholarships. Including this year’s fundraising effort, the Penn College Foundation Golf Classic Scholarship Fund now exceeds $2.2 million. Proceeds from the Golf Classic – along with accumulated investment income – created the endowed scholarship fund, one of the foundation’s largest.

The first in a series of hands-on workshops being offered this summer and fall by the Plastics Innovation & Resource Center at Pennsylvania College of Technology proved highly beneficial for 26 participants from 11 companies based in five states. Led by prominent plastics experts, the three-day Extrusion Seminar & Hands-on Workshop provided attendees with a comprehensive overview of extruders and extrusion principles.

A mix of high school and trade school students from throughout the country competed in the National Welding League Championship and the Maritime National Championship, both offering prizes that included $10,000 for first place.

A leading provider of welding power sources and solar solutions is continuing its support of Pennsylvania College of Technology’s welding program. Fronius USA is entrusting to the college 10 I-Wave 300 machines, units that facilitate multiple welding processes. The new machines are replacing units the company entrusted in 2019.
