A Penn College alumnus, representing the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, met with civil engineering technology and construction management students last week to provide an overview of PennDOT’s digital delivery program, an initiative that is modernizing its delivery processes and contract documentation to incorporate digital data.

On Monday evening, Ellyn A. Lester, assistant dean of construction & architectural technologies at Pennsylvania College of Technology, appeared on WVIA-TV’s “Women Building the Future,” an episode of the “Keystone Edition: Business” program.

Students in the college’s architecture and sustainable design majors received a wealth of real-world wisdom and one-on-one time with graduates during the program’s biennial Architectural Alumni & Student Day.

Two residential construction textbooks authored by a Pennsylvania College of Technology faculty member were published recently by The Goodheart-Wilcox Co. Inc. Jack Jones, associate professor of building construction technology, wrote a new textbook: “Principles of Residential Construction: Essential Skills and Practices,” and authored the 14th edition of “Modern Carpentry.”

Fifteen students in Penn College’s concrete science technology major were among the close to 58,000 who recently attended World of Concrete, an international trade show that encompasses 700,000 square feet inside and outside the Las Vegas Convention Center.

Pennsylvania College of Technology and Greater Lycoming Habitat for Humanity joined on Thursday at the site of a Habitat home to observe the national day of mourning for President Jimmy Carter, who died on Dec. 29 at 100 years old. The nonprofits, working together to build a three-bedroom home at 508 Fifth Ave., lowered a U.S. flag at the building site in memory of the late president. Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter were longtime Habitat for Humanity volunteers.

An interactive workshop conceived and co-presented by Ellyn A. Lester, Pennsylvania College of Technology’s assistant dean of construction and architecture, drew a standing-room only crowd of industry leaders at the Construction Management Association of America’s annual convention, held recently in San Francisco.

Pennsylvania College of Technology student Noah H. Jumper, of Shippensburg, was recently awarded a $5,000 scholarship from the Construction Management Association of America Foundation. Jumper is one of two recipients of the 2024 CMAA Foundation Scholarship. His selection was announced at the association’s annual conference, CMAA24, held Oct. 27-29 in San Francisco.

Twenty-six students in Penn College’s Construction Management Association lent their hands last week to a local mission project with a global reach – including to a nation many of the students have visited through a Penn College Global Experience course.
