Williamsport's role in ferrying 19th-century slaves to freedom will be explored Tuesday, Oct. 25, at Pennsylvania College of Technology's Klump Academic Center Auditorium. The free 7 p.m. lecture, "The Underground Railroad and Its Williamsport Connection," will be presented by Dorothy E. King, an assistant professor of sociology at Penn State Harrisburg.

The Center for Rural Pennsylvania, a bipartisan legislative agency that serves as a resource for rural policy within the commonwealth's General Assembly, held its quarterly board meeting at Penn College on Friday.

Students in Campus View Apartments sponsored a community-service project Wednesday to help local residents uprooted by recent flooding. Freshman Melissa Lake (Winburne) was named the Penn State University Athletic Conference Women's Volleyball Player of the Week for the period ending Sept. 18. In a 2-0 week for the Wildcats, Lake notched 15 kills, five aces and six digs, including a season-high 14 kills against Penn State Wilkes-Barre. Lake is having a solid rookie season with 65 kills, 14 digs and eight blocks.

Graphic designer David Carson has canceled his planned Oct. 4 visit to Penn College for personal reasons. Carson, the former art director for the magazine Ray Gun, was scheduled topresent a lectureas part of The Graphic Design Speaker Series.
