College employees lend hands-on approach to Food Bank

Twenty-two employees recently spent part of their morning at the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank’s Williamsport Hub.

In two hours, the crew packed 320 boxes of food for the Food Bank’s MilitaryShare program. The Food Bank initiated the program when statistics showed that in Central Pennsylvania, nearly 10% of households receiving food assistance have at least one member who has served or is currently serving in the military. The program provides fresh, nutritious food to those families.

For the college, serving at the Food Bank provided an opportunity for employees to give back locally while spending meaningful time together in a relaxed setting outside of their daily work, Joanna K. Flynn, vice president for academic affairs and provost, explained.

Volunteers, representing Academic Affairs, Admissions, Dining Services, College Police and Strategic Marketing & Communications, were: Eric L. Anstadt, assistant professor of electrical technology/occupations; John C. Bickhart, a culinary arts technology student from Williamsport; Heather S. Brennan, registered dietitian; Jernae A. Drummond, enrollment counselor; Christine L. Eckenrod, director of radiography; Jess I. Etzweiler, clinical director of surgical technology; Joanna K. Flynn, vice president for academic affairs and provost; Sadie L. Folmar, instructor of nursing; Michelle L. Gehron, counselor II; Rob Hinkal, social media specialist; Elizabeth A. Legarski, assistant professor of nursing; Sylvia Lukpetris, part-time instructor of accounting; Randall L. Moser, assistant professor of electronics; Eric W. Nagy, instructor of English composition and technical communication; David Pletz, chief of police and director of campus safety; Clark Sarge, instructor of electronics: automation and robotics; Robin L. Stetter, instructor of speech communication/composition; Fawn M. Stevenson, dining services purchasing agent; Lisa J. Stubbs, instructor of English composition and technical communication; Tanae A. Traister, assistant dean of nursing and health sciences; Nathan D. Trick, instructor of mathematics; and Elizabeth P. Waugh, librarian for virtual and distance learning.

Employees are set to volunteer at the Food Bank again on Nov. 13.
