Scholarship recipient featured by skilled trades advocate

Friday, April 3, 2026

A Pennsylvania College of Technology student who received a 2025 scholarship from the mikeroweWORKS Foundation was recently featured on the skilled trade advocate’s social media accounts.

David P. Sayour, of River Edge, New Jersey, is one of 11 Penn College students to receive a scholarship from the foundation for the 2025-26 academic year.

Sayour is pursuing an associate degree in heating, ventilation & air conditioning technology.

The mikeroweWORKS Facebook page and website shared photos of Sayour in a Penn College HVAC lab and the thank you letter he wrote to Rowe after receiving the scholarship.

“I first became interested in the trades during my junior year of high school, when my teachers encouraged me to attend a plumbing trade program for my senior year,” Sayour wrote. “My experience was amazing and gave me the skills and the confidence to pursue a trade after high school. That experience led me to Penn College, where I’m studying HVAC. While my true passion still lies in plumbing, I’m grateful for the training I’m receiving and plan to pursue an apprenticeship with the goal of becoming a successful plumber after I graduate.”

The mikeroweWORKS Foundation, created by television personality Mike Rowe, distributes Work Ethic scholarships annually to students who “embrace personal responsibility, delayed gratification, a positive attitude and a strong work ethic” in preparing for a career in the skilled trades. Over $5 million was distributed to 526 recipients nationwide for the 2025-26 academic year.

Rowe, the creator and host of the widely watched “Dirty Jobs” series that aired on the Discovery Channel, regularly shares the stories of Work Ethic Scholarship recipients.
