Beginning this week, the capstone beer of a May brewing & fermentation science grad is on tap at Jackass Brewing Co.’s two locations (Williamsport and Lewisburg).
Adrien Duran, of Lewisburg, became the company’s first and only intern this spring as part of his brewing & fermentation science studies at the college.
Also during the spring semester, Duran and classmates completed a capstone course. For their final project, the students were challenged to craft a beer of their choice, to be critiqued by industry professionals and Penn College faculty.
“Adrien put in a lot of effort on his capstone project and was very fortunate to intern at a brewery with the flexibility and capacity to allow him to scale it up on a commercial system,” said Timothy L. Yarrington, instructor of brewing and fermentation science. “Each year, our students benefit from the incredible support this program receives from the Pennsylvania brewing industry and, particularly, the Williamsport brewing community. In my opinion, when combined with intensive hands-on learning, our active relationship to industry makes our student experience truly unique in the current educational landscape.”
Next, Duran plans to head to the U.K.
“As a send-off, we’re proud to present Adrien’s capstone project, brewed Jackass-style: a classic British pale ale with a hint of orange peel – smooth, refreshing, and full of character,” the brewery noted in a promotional email about the June 26 debut of the company’s newest beer, appropriately dubbed “Yo! Adrien.”
Duran is continuing his Penn College education to a bachelor’s in applied management.
