Longtime friends of Chester D. "Chet" Schuman channeled their bereavement into benevolence, forming Team SchuPa and raising nearly $14,000 for a scholarship memorializing the former Penn College admissions director and golf coach. Team members – whose fundraising activities included running in the Rivertowns Half Marathon on May 5 – thank everyone who supported them through donations, pledges, buying T-shirts or participating in a campuswide Dress-Down Day to help endow the Chester D. Schuman Scholarship. Members include Becky Shaner (alumni relations assistant and a 2003 Penn College graduate); Kristopher "K.C." Shaner (a 2000 alumnus); Matt Haile (a network specialist at the college, Schuman's successor as Wildcat golf coach and a 2006 Penn College graduate); Mike Melnyk (another 2006 alumnus); John Maize (instructor of speech communication-composition); Denny Dunkleberger (registrar); Kay Dunkleberger (coordinator of disability services); Bill Martens (executive director of Intermediate Unit 17 and Chet's running partner); and Kim and Randy Allison (Randy trained through the high school vocational program at Williamsport Area Community College and built the Schumans’ home).Photos by Dana R.
