Students enjoyed some fabulous treats while learning about valuable resources at Penn College during Tuesday's "Dessert Crawl," sponsored by the Office of Student Engagement and its Wildcat Advisory Committee. Participants began the event at the Bush Campus Center Information Desk and visited a number of stations during their sweet sampling, earning entries to a prize raffle for filling out their passports along the way.

Pennsylvania College of Technology held its last commencement ceremony of 2023 on Dec. 16, an occasion marked by comfort and joy – both inside the Community Arts Center and out.

The Retail Confectioners Association of Philadelphia, which for years has provided a learning experience for Pennsylvania College of Technology baking & pastry arts students during its Philadelphia National Candy, Gift & Gourmet Show, recently established an annual scholarship for students in the college’s baking and culinary majors.

A Pennsylvania College of Technology initiative focused on strengthening education and employment outcomes for individuals returning to their communities after a period of incarceration has been awarded a highly competitive U.S. Department of Justice grant for $866,188.

Two new exhibits of student work from instructor Joanna Yoder's Digital Photography course are available for yearend viewing in The Madigan Library and at the Community Arts Center. “I had the pleasure of working with a very energetic and creative group of students ... this semester," Yoder said. "It was wonderful to witness the camaraderie and teamwork in this unique group of students who often challenged and encouraged each other to push themselves to take creative risks."

Pace-O-Matic, a developer of legally compliant games of skill and innovative software technology, is exploring additional ways to support students in information technology programs at Pennsylvania College of Technology. Founded in 2000, the Duluth, Georgia-based company is interested in establishing an internship program for the college’s IT students.

Six Pennsylvania College of Technology students and an information technology instructor attended NAViGATE 2023, held earlier this semester in Virginia. The annual event is organized by COMMON, the world’s largest association of IT professionals focused on IBM and related technologies.

In what could unsurprisingly become quite a popular event as Finals Week anxiety ramps up each semester, the ConCreate Design Club held its first "Smash House and Grill Out" just off the Carl Building Technologies Center parking lot from noon-5 p.m. Thursday. For a $5 donation, patrons could get a hot dog and one minute to smash the concrete-lab leftovers of their choosing. Among those yearend items were steps that could be smashed for prizes if wire mesh, rebar or a hammer were uncovered within.

Through expansion of a state program announced on Nov. 20, Pennsylvania College of Technology will receive more than $1.4 million from Coterra Energy for renovation and expansion of labs and instructional spaces in its electrical and architecture & sustainable design programs. The funding will also generate scholarships for veterans and first responders from Camp Freedom.

In this season of Thanksgiving, the Pennsylvania College of Technology community is reminded of those in need – including students whose food insecurity is mitigated by The Cupboard, a food pantry housed in the Bush Campus Center. The pantry’s reach has been bolstered through the generosity of Frank G. Pellegrino, who contributed funds for six stand-alone “mini-cupboards” – each with a refrigerator and shelving for non-perishables – strategically situated across the college’s campuses.
