Good job! You did well. You turned the tassel, walked across the stage, and made your family and friends smile. Another page for the scrapbook of your life … You have done a good job! Not only here today, in this ceremony, but also over the last several years. You opened your books. You participated in your labs. You finished your projects … passed your tests … completed your courses.

The state budget signed late Thursday by Gov. Tom Corbett includes more funding than anticipated for Pennsylvania College of Technology. Penn College President Davie Jane Gilmour had said that, if the governor signed the budget as submitted, the bulk of the fundswould help the college reduce the 2011-12 tuition increase for students to 2.99 percent.

We’ve turned the tassels … shaken hands … taken pictures... now, it is time to say goodbye. I know you are anxious to go, but I’d like to leave you with a few thoughts of my own. When the media speaks of your generation, it is often to point out your differences from previous generations. You don’t use mail or fax … or even e-mail. You text. Your entertainment often exists in a “virtual” reality.

I know you are anxious to see your family and friends, but I would like just a few minutes before you go. I want to tell you that I am proud to be your president. I want to invite you to keep in touch and to be active Penn College alumni.
