Students eyeing careers in applied technology – particularly the manufacturing, health care and energy components of the American workforce – got authoritative guidance during a Pennsylvania College of Technology-hosted roundtable on April 7.

Pennsylvania College of Technology on Thursday kicked off Legacy Day, a 24-hour celebration to unite alumni, faculty, staff, students and the campus community in honoring President Davie Jane Gilmour’s transformational leadership. Allan Myers, the Mid-Atlantic’s largest heavy civil contractor and a valued Pennsylvania College of Technology Corporate Tomorrow Maker, has pledged $250,000 to expand its support of students and programs at the college.

Any number of animals have creatively aided children’s development over the years: a hat-wearing cat, a honey-loving bear, a curious monkey, a big red dog and an even larger yellow bird, among them. Make room in that menagerie for Waffles, a lovable guinea pig debuting in a book for children – and whose enchanting story will also benefit students at Pennsylvania College of Technology.

Johnson Controls and its York-based Navy Systems business has bolstered welding education at Pennsylvania College of Technology by donating $30,000 worth of materials in the past year and a half. Recently, the company, a Corporate Tomorrow Maker partner of the college, boosted its support with a $10,000 gift toward curriculum enhancements and additional equipment and materials procurement.

Projections of a robust job market for the Class of 2022 were supported by employer participation at Pennsylvania College of Technology’s recent in-person Spring Career Fair. More than 230 companies, offering thousands of job and internship opportunities, met with about 1,000 students at the daylong event, split between the college’s Field House and Bardo Gymnasium.

Connections between Penn College and such corporate partners as Anderson Equipment Co. have always been invaluable, whether through equipment and monetary donations or in the hiring of skilled graduates. Join Justin W.

Representatives of the Air Conditioning Contractors of America, which established its first student chapter at Pennsylvania College of Technology in 2003, recently visited to enhance that campus connection.

A grant from EQT Foundation, the philanthropic extension of EQT Corporation, the nation’s largest producer of natural gas, will help Pennsylvania College of Technology address the national skills shortage and overcome the misconception of “dirty jobs” in technical fields.

Pennsylvania College of Technology and Anderson Equipment Co. have entered into an entrustment allowing for students in the heavy construction equipment technology program to hone their skills on a construction bulldozer.
