Donald O. Praster has been appointed dean of industrial and engineering technologies at Pennsylvania College of Technology. Praster, who joined Penn College in 1976, had been serving as interim dean of the School of Industrial and Engineering Technologies since 2007.

Role models can be examples of how to discover and realize your own unique talents, an inspiration to do more, to be more authentic. A role model – a "Star of Influence' – is a must for all, especially in the eyes of college students as emerging leaders. It is a great help. Unconsciously we all have one. It is something which inspires us and touches the core of our heart.

The Student Activities Office is organizing a new community-service project this winter called Operation Snowflake. Student organizations will sign up to sponsor a week during the winter months. If it snows during that week, the organization's members will shovel the walks of elderly citizens and alumni in the area.

Patricia J. Martin, clinical director of the occupational therapy assistant program at Pennsylvania College of Technology, has been asked to extend her term as a member of the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education.

Penn College Police Officers Michael J. Engel, Fletcher W. Farr and Matthew C. Jodun are participating in a three-day training exercise to help first-responders react to explosive devices. WBRE's Eric Deabill interviewed Engel during one of this week's training sessions and filed a report for Wednesday's newscasts.
