Nearly 2,000 fans enjoyed a late-summer night's sojourn to Williamsport's historic Bowman Field, where not even an 8-1 Crosscutters' loss to the State College Spikes squelched the "Pack the Park Night" celebration.

Pennsylvania College of Technology students will prepare free samples of dishes made with fresh, local food products at the Williamsport Growers Market on Sept. 12. Students enrolled in a Catering class offered by the college's School of Hospitality will prepare food on-site from 8 a.m.

Comedian Jeff Ross, known as "The Roastmaster General," will perform at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, in the Community Arts Center as part of Homecoming 2009 (Oct. 8-11). Student tickets are only $10 and go on sale at the Student Activities Information Desk and the Arts Center Box Office at 10 a.m. Friday.

Greek Week began with formal expansion of the Pennsylvania College of Technology community to include two sororities – Alpha Sigma Alpha and Sigma Sigma Sigma, both of which held bid days on Aug. 30. The women selected their respective organizations and, amid a festive atmosphere that night in Penn's Inn, celebrated their new memberships.

Penn College, which last week ushered in the 63rd Little League World Series with a cookout and an impressive presence in the Grand Slam Parade, continues to be a most valuable player on the event's support team.

Evan Summer, whose collection is featured in The Gallery at Penn College through Sept. 27, offered a lecture and informal remarks (as well as participating in an afternoon public-radio interview) in conjunction with the show's Tuesday opening. The artist also attended a reception for "Prints, Drawings and Collages" in the gallery, where all exhibits are free and open to the public.

Penn College had a pervasive presence in Thursday's Grand Slam Parade, which kicks off the Little League Baseball World Series and stepped off at 6 p.m. northwest of campus.

The Gallery at Penn College, on the third floor of Pennsylvania College of Technology's Madigan Library, will host "Prints, Drawings and Collages," a collection of work by Evan Summer, from Aug. 25 to Sept. 27. Summer's images are imbued with a sense of mystery. Abandoned structures in the landscape are a sign of the human presence and vital activity that no longer exist.

Penn College held another successful Welcome Weekend on Aug. 15-16, offering students introductions to new friends and new surroundings alike. Other activities ranged from informational sessions and other orientation opportunities to a campus festival, hypnotist, fireworks display ... and a chance for one lucky student to win free tuition for the semester. — Photos by Jessica L.
