Pennsylvania College of Technology student Scott D. Hubler won’t be in class this week ... but he has a good excuse. Hubler, of Coplay, is in Florida preparing for his first ARCA Racing Series event at the famed Daytona International Speedway. Hubler is scheduled to drive the No. 7 car in the Lucas Oil 200 on Saturday.

Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Corbett made a Tuesday visit to Pennsylvania College of Technology's Schneebeli Earth Science Center near Allenwood, where – surrounded by the workforce of tomorrow, embodied by diesel technology and on-site power generation majors – he presented a 73-page resource guide designed to attract business and industry investors to the energy-rich commonwealth.

Fifty years ago, Williamsport Technical Institute installed its first computer on the campus that is now Pennsylvania College of Technology, pioneering the early development of computer science education. The first computer had its own small room, which could accommodate about 10 students at a time gaining hands-on experience in the college’s first “data-processing” courses.

The Society of Plastics Engineers has awarded a Pennsylvania College of Technology plastics student a second scholarship for the 2013-14 academic year. Bryan T. Robinson, Gilbertsville, a junior enrolled in the college’s plastics and polymer engineering technology bachelor-degree major, recently received a $3,000 Plastics Pioneers Association Scholarship from the SPE Foundation.

U.S. Army Capt. Scott M. Frederick, who earned a bachelor’s degree in welding and fabrication engineering technology from Pennsylvania College of Technology in 2004, was presented with an Alumni Achievement Award at the college’s December commencement ceremony.
