The October harvest of internship and job opportunities continues for Pennsylvania College of Technology students. Through the end of the month, five program-specific Recruitment Days are on tap, offering exciting possibilities to discuss internships and full- and part-time jobs.
Michael J. Reed, president of Pennsylvania College of Technology, addressed the Opening General Session of the 44th annual conference of the Aviation Council of Pennsylvania, held Tuesday at the Holiday Inn Williamsport. Delivering the keynote address at the session was Michael B. Carroll, state secretary of transportation.
Two Pennsylvania College of Technology students brought home medals from the 2024 SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference in Atlanta, while all of the college’s competitors finished in the top 10 in their categories. SkillsUSA’s National Leadership & Skills Conference involved 6,450 collegiate and high school competitors in 115 career competitions.
It pays to be close to the action. That’s a common experience for students and faculty at Pennsylvania College of Technology’s Lumley Aviation Center at the Williamsport Regional Airport in Montoursville. On Tuesday, the college’s “aviation crew” enjoyed an up-close view of a Goodyear “blimp” (technically an airship).
Pennsylvania College of Technology has named veteran educator Ali L. Lorson as assistant dean of transportation technologies. Lorson comes to Penn College from the Mifflinburg Area School District, where she served as nontraditional education coordinator. In that role, she provided leadership in the creation, execution and assessment of district services and programs, including growing post-secondary opportunities for students.
The August 2024 issue of Avionics News features an article on Pennsylvania College of Technology alumna and Air Force veteran Alicia “Marti” Martinez. Titled “Taking an Active Role in Learning,” the profile was written by retired aviation faculty member Thomas D. Inman and showcases Martinez’s enthusiasm for her academics and extracurricular activities.
Four Pennsylvania College of Technology aviation maintenance technology students, along with two instructors and two college staffers, took part in the inaugural Aerospace Day at the state Capitol. Held Tuesday, the event highlighted opportunities in the aerospace and aviation industries in Pennsylvania. Penn College was part of a select group of aerospace and aviation industry and higher education representatives.
Blue skies were in the forecast for the eighth and final Employee Engagement Series session of the 2023-24 academic year, held recently at Penn College’s Lumley Aviation Center. With center staff and faculty serving as the “flight crew,” participating employees were engaged in a range of experiences for their professional development outing.
A first for the Lumley Aviation Center and Penn College students – an Aviators Ball was held recently, drawing more than 100 students to the college’s facility at the Williamsport Regional Airport in Montoursville. The semi-formal affair featured music, food, photo ops, activities and connection with fellow students.
Friday’s “Centre County Report” featured a story on Penn College’s Transportation Scholars program. The weekly broadcast -- produced by students in the capstone broadcast journalism course in the Donald P. Bellisario College of Communications at Penn State – included an interview with Bradley M. Webb, dean of engineering technologies.
