Frederick T. Gilmour "The Dichotomy of an Artist: Abstractions and Realizations," a two-part exhibit by alumnus/retiree Frederick T. Gilmour, will open at 6 p.m. Jan. 5 at Gallery 425, 425 Market St., as part of Williamsport's First Friday schedule.

Pennsylvania College of Technology held its Fall 2017 graduation ceremony at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 16, in the Community Arts Center, closing out the calendar year with a seasonal observance of academic achievement. The student speaker was Garrett Davis Corneliussen, of Hickory, North Carolina, who received a Bachelor of Science degree in welding and fabrication engineering technology.

Pennsylvania College of Technology presented a Mentorship Award to alumnus Jeremy L. Thorne, owner and operator of ThorneCare Landscape Solutions LLC, in Sugarloaf. The award was bestowed upon Thorne by Penn College President Davie Jane Gilmour during the Fall 2017 commencement ceremony, held Dec. 16 at the Community Arts Center, Williamsport.

Hundreds of thousands of visitors will soon flock to the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex & Expo Center to celebrate the commonwealth’s leading industry, and Pennsylvania College of Technology students and employees will be on hand for an interactive peek into the real-world applications of “degrees that work.”

A commencement ceremony will be held Saturday, Dec. 16, for the nearly 300 Pennsylvania College of Technology students who have petitioned to graduate following the Fall 2017 semester. The ceremony will start at 11 a.m. in the Community Arts Center, 220 W. Fourth St., Williamsport. More than 225 students are expected to march in the proceedings.

The Salvation Army of Williamsport will receive about $17,000 to be used for essential services to local families, thanks to Saturday's Community Challenge.
