The Chess Club, one of Penn College's newest student organizations, held its first-ever tournament Saturday in the Bush Campus Center. Ten players competed through five rounds of chess. When the last round was finished at 3 p.m., the tournament had three champions: Solomon Francis, Open Division; Rob Schlenker, Student Division; and Zach Geffre, 16-and-Under Division.

In one of the sunniest days of the season, Erin Bannon, Tiffany Diehm, Amber Eck, Michelle Goodling, Trisha Moser and Amanda Reedy were celebrated for their hard work and accomplishments in their tenures on the team.
A Pennsylvania College of Technology student was awarded The Pennsylvania State University's 2011 Achieving Women Award for her work at Penn State Schuylkill. Penny K. Shade, of Schuylkill Haven, works in Penn State Schuylkill's Hidden Stream and oversees the campus's catering service. She also is pursuing a bachelor's degree in culinary arts and systems from Penn College.
