Offering an overview of the numerous career pathways in the home energy efficiency industry, Pennsylvania College of Technology’s Clean Energy Center lab in Latrobe hosted an open house on Wednesday at its 7,500 square-foot facility at Westmoreland Airpark. The event gave attendees opportunities to watch live demonstrations of home energy efficiency technologies and network with employers and workforce development experts.
The Center for Rural Pennsylvania held its “Global Pathways for a Thriving Rural Workforce” symposium at Pennsylvania College of Technology on Friday. The daylong event’s goals involve inspiring rural innovation and policy recommendations for rural communities in need of skilled labor forces to boost local livelihoods; filling industrial gaps; and building inclusive communities that will encourage local leadership or international migration.
Students in grades K-12 are the beneficiaries of a $40,000 gift from the EQT Foundation, the philanthropic extension of EQT Corp., the nation’s largest producer of natural gas. The funds are supporting two Pennsylvania College of Technology programs – the Tinker Camp and the Community Arts Center’s Educational Series. Each initiative is receiving $20,000.
More than 200 students from 18 school groups in five area counties gathered at Pennsylvania College of Technology Thursday for the annual Student Government Seminar hosted by state Sen. Gene Yaw, R-23rd. The event is the largest Senate-organized student government seminar in the commonwealth, and is hosted annually by Yaw, who also serves as Penn College Board of Directors chair.
Penn College’s Wayne R. Sheppard, assistant professor of construction management, and student Noah H. Jumper, of Shippensburg, were quoted in an article published in the March issue of Construction Executive magazine. In a story titled “Generation Yes: Recruiting today’s construction management students,” Sheppard and Jumper, a senior in the construction management major, offered insight to employers looking to hire upcoming construction management graduates.
Sarah F. Marino, an enrollment counselor in the Admissions Office at Pennsylvania College of Technology, has been selected for the National Association for College Admission Counseling’s NEXT program. Marino was chosen among several applicants from within Pennsylvania and will be one of three participants sponsored by the Pennsylvania Association for College Admission Counseling.
The second annual Night of Empowerment drew an enthusiastic crowd of more than 150 community members to Pennsylvania College of Technology’s Klump Academic Center Auditorium. Hosted by the Williamsport Representation Council, the recent gathering offered opportunities for networking and inspiring discussions.
Ellyn A. Lester, assistant dean of construction and architectural technologies for Pennsylvania College of Technology, was honored as a Construction Champion by Construction Dive, a leading industry publication. The annual list recognizes the most inspiring women leaders throughout the commercial construction industry. “Ellyn’s entire career has focused on talent: identifying it, leveraging it and nurturing it,” her nominator wrote.
The Dunham Children’s Learning Center celebrated the birthday of Dr. Seuss (March 2) and Read Across America Week (March 2-6) a tad early last week, due to Spring Break occurring this week. The colorful week of costumes and special book readers was a joyous time for children, parents and staff.
Three NCAA Regional wrestling medalists, three United East Volt Division all-conference basketball players, wins by the baseball and men’s lacrosse teams, and two top 10 archers. It was a very good week for Pennsylvania College of Technology athletics.
