Students in Geoffrey M. Campbell's 300-level Passive Design studio class were asked to fashion a parade costume that would be representative of Penn College's building science and sustainable design major. They were given the assignment last Monday and the costumes were due Wednesday.

The dog days of summer took on a new meeting at Pennsylvania College of Technology on Aug. 18, when a unique icebreaker united first-year students with employees and their dogs. Held on the Rose Street Commons, "Hot Dog, You're Here!" provided the opportunity for faculty and staff to welcome and engage new students over the common ground of pet ownership, conversation and free food.

Pennsylvania College of Technology again was a home-field favorite with its community outreach for the start of the Little League Baseball World Series. A college-hosted cookout for the 16 series teams – as well as coaches, team uncles, umpires and other guests – was held on the lawn outside the Bush Campus Center.

Pennsylvania College of Technology donated two dental chairs to the Susquehanna Health Community Dental Center. Given the Community Dental Center's rapid growth, Penn College chose to formally donate the chairs, which it purchased and installed at the center in 2007 to support student rotations. The value of the chairs is $25,894.

Pennsylvania College of Technology has been selected for inclusion in the 2011 list of "Military Friendly Schools" issued by G.I. Jobs. The designation is reserved for the top 15 percent of colleges, universities and trade schools that do the most to "embrace America's veterans as students," according to the publication.

Pennsylvania College of Technology has achieved Top 10 status among the best public, four-year colleges in the northern region of the United States. In the latest rankings of America's Best Colleges by the U.S.

Sloppy joes, chips and water were served to lunchtime pedestrians during a free "Backyard BBQ" Tuesday on the LEC patio. In addition, Madigan Library staff shared a cake commemorating the facility's fourth anniversary.

Dan Onorato, Democratic candidate for governor (against Republican Tom Corbett, Pennsylvania's attorney general) toured Penn College on Tuesday and held a press conference in the Center for Business & Workforce Development.

"Students Helping Students Succeed" is the slogan that has driven fundraising efforts by Pennsylvania College of Technology's Student Government Association for the past four years, and those efforts have paid off with a fully endowed scholarship fund for Penn College students. The Student Leader Legacy Scholarship Fund surpassed $25,000 at the end of the 2009-10 academic year.

Pennsylvania College of Technology officially opened its arms to first-year and transfer students during Welcome Weekend on Aug. 14-15. On Saturday, students moved into on- and off-campus housing and made final preparations for Monday's start of classes.
