Thirty-seven Pennsylvania College of Technology students recently attended Penn State Career Days through Wildcats on Wheels, a new initiative that provides safe, reliable transportation for students to connect with employers beyond the college’s on-campus recruitment events.
Students represented a variety of major clusters, including information technology, industrial design, electronics & computer engineering technology, and accounting & business administration.
Sarah F. Marino, career coach, and Lizze R. Winters, associate director of the Center for Career Design, served as chaperones for the excursion.
“Everyone was so excited and well-prepared,” Marino said. “Students spent the day interacting with employers in their field and obtaining plenty of networking connections and were thrilled to see so many faces at the Bryce Jordan Center.”
Marino said the experiential learning opportunity allows students to engage with professionals off campus and build connections that can impact their professional development.
“The hope is that students use this as an opportunity to research and speak with new employers who they might never have met otherwise,” she said.
Business administration student Landon T. Reeder, of Montoursville, said he thought the Wildcats on Wheels trip went well.
“I was able to meet with several companies at the Career Fair and have since been in contact with multiple potential employers,” Reeder said. “The trip exposed me to a whole new network and gave me valuable opportunities to make connections.”
Several students reported that they obtained first- and second-round interviews and will continue to communicate with employers as they approach graduation.
“I think opportunities like this are important because they give students a chance to build their professional network and explore career opportunities at another event outside our own Penn College Career Fair,” Reeder said.
A second Wildcats on Wheels opportunity is being planned for the spring semester. Details will be made available as plans are finalized.
