Pennsylvania College of Technology bestowed its Distinguished Alumni Award to Stephen E. Griegel during the Summer 2026 Commencement ceremony, held Aug. 8 at the Journey Bank Community Arts Center in Williamsport.
Griegel, of Ellijay, Georgia, graduated from Penn College in 2007 with a bachelor’s degree in information technology: security specialist concentration. He also earned two IT associate degrees: network technology emphasis and technical support technology emphasis.
Griegel serves as the security solution leader for the Americas within the Accenture Microsoft Business Group, overseeing Accenture’s Microsoft cybersecurity strategy across the U.S., Canada, Latin America, Brazil and the Caribbean. He works through Avanade, a global IT consulting and professional services company and a subsidiary of Accenture. Avanade specializes in the Microsoft ecosystem. A core focus of Griegel’s position is helping organizations operate securely in the age of artificial intelligence.
His previous roles include director of North America identity and data protection at Avanade; principal director of applications, data and cloud security at Booz Allen Hamilton; and nine years in Accenture data security leadership positions. Griegel began his career while a student at Penn College, working in IT support at Sunbury Generation LLC in Shamokin Dam and as a network administrator at Empire Education Group in Pottsville. He went on to work as a network engineer at Lockheed Martin and as a security engineer and team manager at ManTech, where he helped the FBI establish and scale its Enterprise Security Operations Center.
A member of the Alumni Tomorrow Makers Program, Griegel was one of four alums who participated last April in a virtual networking event for current Penn College IT students. Griegel’s stepson, Daniel F. Chacon, is seeking degrees in mechatronics technology and building automation engineering technology at Penn College.
The Distinguished Alumni Award is presented to those who have made significant contributions in their chosen fields, demonstrated the importance of their education at Penn College or its predecessors, participated in leadership roles within the community and demonstrated a commitment to their alma mater.
