WVIA’s “ArtScene with Erika Funke” spotlights the summer exhibition in The Gallery at Penn College in this interview with Penny Griffin Lutz, gallery director, and two of the artists featured in “Five Artists: Explorations & Conversations.”
On display through July 24, the exhibition includes a reception, set for 2 to 4:30 p.m., Sunday, June 8, with a gallery talk at 3 p.m. The event and exhibit are free and open to the public on the third floor of The Madigan Library at Pennsylvania College of Technology.
The 30-minute interview profiles textile artists Meredith Eachus Armstrong, of Danville, and Peggy Blei Hracho, of Reading, and their artistic journeys from being youngsters inspired by their mothers to adults supported by a circle of fellow artists. They address the vulnerability of sharing their works-in-progress and the problem-solving they gather through the collaborative process.
Lutz offers her thoughts on the special medium of textiles and how the exhibition presents surprising and varied techniques. She also shares her aspirations for finding unique summer exhibitions to attract visitors to The Gallery at Penn College.
The gallery’s summer hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays; and 1 to 4 p.m., Sundays. (The gallery is closed Mondays, Fridays and Saturdays and will also be closed July 3-7.) More on “Five Artists: Explorations & Conversations” can be found on Penn College News.
