Once a Wildcat, always a Wildcat.
Athletics and Alumni Relations welcomed 45 alumni soccer players, who returned to the Penn College campus to rekindle and re-kick that competitive spirit.
At the recent reunion, the alumni competed against the current men’s and women’s soccer teams on UPMC Field.
"As a Penn College alumnus, it was great to see so many fellow alumni back on campus, playing the game we all love,” said Ian T. Scheller, women’s soccer coach and a 2018 alumnus. “The campus and athletics programs have grown so much, and it’s always a privilege to showcase that progress. Connecting our current team with those who paved the way is special to me, and I look forward to growing this event for years to come."

Scheller and Tyler S. Mensch, men's soccer coach, initiated the Alumni Soccer Day in August 2023, but moved it to spring this year, so the games could be used as an extra play day for the Spring 2025 season.
“It was great to see all of the alumni show up to play in our match,” Mensch said. “It is always wonderful to see and reconnect with former players who have donned the blue-and-white jerseys, lace up the boots again and compete on the field. As a coach, it is rewarding to know that there is a strong backing of alumni who continue to support the program, and I am extremely thankful for everyone who has played for us!”
In addition to competing against the current team, the alumni played against each other.
“The oldest alumni who attended was from the Class of 2001 and hadn’t been back to campus in 20 years,” shared Lori A. Boos, alumni and career engagement manager. “Several Athletics Hall of Fame recipients came back to play. After the games, the alumni went to John Ryan Brewery for dinner.”
