Gallery to host capstone work of senior architecture students

Graduating seniors in the architecture and sustainable design major at Pennsylvania College of Technology will showcase their capstone projects at The Gallery at Penn College from May 10 to 13.

A reception for “Architecture & Sustainable Design: Senior Capstone Projects” is set for 4 to 6 p.m. (with remarks at 4:30 p.m.) on Friday, May 10, in the gallery, on the third floor of The Madigan Library. The exhibit and reception are free and open to the public.

Each graduating senior was tasked with the design and development of a significant building in a location of their choice. Students will present design process and synthesis drawings, 3D models, technical building elements, and computer renderings depicting their comprehensive individual solutions.

“I am delighted to unveil the extraordinary capstone projects meticulously designed by Penn College’s graduating architecture seniors, the culmination of their four-year journey and marking the apex of their educational odyssey,” said Dr. Naim Jabbour, associate professor of architecture. “These projects stand as a testament to the fusion of acquired proficiencies spanning the breadth of our curriculum. They epitomize a synthesis of acquired skills and knowledge spanning architectural history, theory, design process, visualization, materiality, structural integrity, environmental consciousness, technical detailing, sustainable practices and innovative design ethos. The submissions by the students exude profound meaning, comprehensive insight, exceptional craftsmanship and awe-inspiring creativity, igniting a beacon of inspiration for future generations of architects and building professionals!”

The 12 students displaying their capstone work are: Gavin M. Burrows, of Herndon; Ryan P. Cramer, of Hershey; Michael T. Draves, of Gilbertsville; Diana M. Gaglione, of Scranton; Sandra M. Gallick, of Linden; Zachery A. Heigley, of Kittanning; Evynn A. Johnston, of Sayre; Zachary E. Johnston, of Derry; Elaina M. Lawson, of Girard; Sadie S.E. Niedermyer, of Spring Mills; Tyler T. Weimert, of Yardley; and Aidan J. Weissenberger, of Hightstown, New Jersey.

The gallery will host special hours for the exhibit: Friday, May 10, 11 a.m.-6 p.m.; Sunday, May 12, 1-4 p.m.; and Monday, May 13, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

The Penn College architecture program – which offers a Bachelor of Architecture, a bachelor’s in architecture & sustainable design, and an associate degree in architecture – has a long history and strong reputation.
