College to Host Austrian Wine Expert for Classes, Public Event
Thursday, September 23, 2010
Pennsylvania College of Technology will host Austrian wine expert Andreas Wickhoff on campus Oct. 27 to work with classes in the School of Hospitality and to present "An Austrian Wine and Food Tasting" to the public to benefit the college's international student programs.
Wickhoff is the managing director of Premium Estates of Austria, an association he established to promote Austria's top wine producers, and he travels the world to promote the group's wines.
Before establishing Premium Estates of Austria, he worked as a sommelier and wine buyer in some of the world's finest properties in France, Australia, the Caribbean and the United States. Wickhoff is a graduate of the College of Tourism and Hotel Management in Bad Gleichenberg, Austria. He also holds a diploma from the Wine & Spirit Education Trust and is a second-year student at London's Institute of Masters of Wine.
Wickhoff will lecture in wine-and-beverage and hospitality management classes, and students will gain valuable hands-on experience as they help to prepare and serve the six-course tasting menu.
For the tasting, scheduled at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 27 in the college's Le Jeune Chef Restaurant, wines representing the varieties and regions of Austria have been carefully selected to pair with each course. Diners will be afforded the opportunity to compare and contrast the food and wine pairings while Wickhoff describes the wine characteristics.
Tickets are $69.95 per person. Net proceeds from this event will be used for international student programs at Penn College. To reserve seats, call the Special Events Office at 570-320-5229 or e-mail .
