Rep. Flick to host Sept. 7 Human Services Expo on campus

Penn College students and employees are invited to join state Rep. Jamie L. Flick (R-Lycoming and Union Counties) as he hosts a Human Services Expo and Speaker Series on Thursday, Sept. 7, on main campus.
Open to the public, the event is designed to connect people with the services, programs and supports they and/or their families may need to live healthy, productive and fulfilling lives.
House Republican Policy Committee
Flick is also hosting a Pennsylvania House Republican Policy Committee hearing on “Addressing the Mental Health Needs of Rural Communities” at 10 that morning in the Mountain Laurel Room of the college's Thompson Professional Development Center. (A livestream will be available through the committee, as well.)
Featured panelists include Keith Wagner, executive director, Lycoming-Clinton Joinder; Eric Briggs, superintendent of South Williamsport Area School District; Ryan C. Gardner, Lycoming County district attorney; and Sherry Shaffer, regional director of Community Care Behavioral Health (now part of UPMC).
Speaker Series/Q&A
The Speaker Series and question-and-answer session will begin at 1 p.m. in the Davie Jane Gilmour Center's first-floor presentation room, and will feature experts from local agencies: Rob Labatch, president and CEO, Hope Enterprises; Taylor Falk, lead certified recovery specialist, West Branch Drug and Alcohol Abuse Commission; Misty Dion, executive director, Roads to Freedom Center for Independent Living; and Kelly Gordon and Michaela Detrick from the Northcentral PA Chapter of National Alliance on Mental Illness.
Human Services Expo
The Human Services Expo is from 3–6 p.m. in the campus Field House and will feature vendors, organizations, people and programs from the 83rd District providing health and human services and supports to our community.
Topics and areas of interest will include aging, autism, behavioral health, children and adolescents, disability (physical and intellectual), early intervention, independent living, medical assistance, mental health, substance abuse, and veterans. Vendors will share materials, provide information and be on hand to answer questions from visitors.
