The exhibit includes paintings, drawings and three-dimensional constructions, most depicting animals as they demonstrate such human qualities as self-consciousness, mischievousness, vanity or concern.

"I am fascinated with how animals are both like and unlike humans, and find that likeness/unlikeness akin to each person's individuality and common humanity," Agulnick Hochberg says.

She works to engage viewers with her work, encouraging them to think about and remember it. She attempts to accomplish this through subtle humor, through creating interactive pieces that require an action in order to reveal the work from behind a wood box, and through using a broad range of materials and approaches.

Agulnick Hochberg is a professor of art and chairperson of the Fine Arts Department at Kutztown University. She received a Master of Fine Arts from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia.

Agulnick Hochberg has exhibited nationally and regionally, and her work is included in public and corporate collections, including the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia. She resides and keeps her studio in Kutztown.

The gallery will host a Meet the Artist Reception with Agulnick Hochberg on Aug. 30 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., with artist's comments at 5:30.

The gallery is open Sunday, 1 to 4 p.m.; Tuesday and Thursday, 2 to 7 p.m.; and Wednesday and Friday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. (closed Saturday and Monday). The gallery will be closed Labor Day Weekend, Sept. 3-5.
